The Child Within

Dr. Maria Montessori had the revolutionary idea that the child within is peaceful.   That amidst the wiggling, crawling, eating, running, crying, that a child is innately peaceful within themselves. The child wants to clean, trace, smell, fold, cook, count, speak, read.  Where we see a chore, a child sees wonder and awe, but instead of voicing this, they usually just say three words, “Let me try.” It is only when we, as educators, don’t have the time, energy, or tools to teach, that the child reacts poorly. Montessori; however, found that by supporting this inner drive, a child could learn to master the adult skills , wanting only one thing in return—more.
This is one mom’s blog of her journey of support and fostering of this peaceful child, told sometimes from a Catholic, but always a Christian point of view, in hopes of bringing a bit of knowledge, a lot of joy, and to support the peace in a bombarding world.
